Alan is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group and focuses his practice on real estate transactional, land use, and environmental matters.

Within his real estate transactional practice, Alan advises public and private clients on real property acquisitions and dispositions as well as retail, office, and industrial leasing and licensing arrangements. He helps clients develop and execute commercial and residential property management strategies. He works with borrowers, lenders, and private equity investors on transactional due diligence, mortgage-backed financing, and tax planning. He also assists non-profit and for-profit clients with operational needs such as corporate entity formation and management.

Alan’s land use representations involve securing zoning and land use approvals and ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental requirements. He advises private landowners and developers on local, state, and federal rules and legislation that impact real estate development and utilization, with a focus on housing regulation.

Alan works with corporate clients to address the evolving regulatory framework related to climate change and sustainable development, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) best practice implementation and natural resource conservation.

Prior to joining Thoits Law, Alan worked at the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC, as well as Hanson Bridgett in San Francisco.
