Of Counsel
Soyeun serves as Of Counsel in the Litigation Group to protect the business and intellectual property interests of businesses and business owners.
Her experience has successfully aided US and international clients in federal and state courts, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and through pre-trial resolutions.Soyeun is credited as an update author in the 2022 Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) guide for “Advising California Partnerships,” published to help professionals navigate California’s partnership issues, addressing topics such as formation and operation of partnerships, along with primers on planning general partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships, drafting partnership agreements, and issuing partnership interests.
Soyeun authored updates to Chapter 4, “Partnership Name,” Chapter 9, “Planning Limited Liability Partnerships,” and Chapter 10, “Partnership Limited Liability Partnership Agreements and co-authored Chapter 11, “Issuing Partnership Interests,” with Gabor Szecsi (Haynes and Boone).
Soyeun served as Chair of the Business Law Section (“BLS”) for the California Lawyers Association (“CLA”), the nation’s largest voluntary bar association. As part of that initiative, Soyeun serves on various working groups and committees; specifically, one to establish certification for privacy law specialization, another which investigates emerging sustainability issues within the corporate sector, and the BLS Roadshow which arranges visits to undergraduate institutions and law schools. Soyeun also serves on three CLA diversity committees. She also serves as General Counsel to the Asian Business League (“ABL”) and, on ABL’s behalf, organizes the Gateway Series in collaboration with the Asian Law Alliance and National Asian American Association of Professionals. In the past, Soyeun served as President of the Palo Alto Area Bar Association, Chair of the IP and Solo and Small Firm Sections for the San Mateo County Bar Association, and Newsletter Chair for the Asian American Bar Association.
Soyeun volunteers as a race coordinator for the Hiller Aviation Museum. She has run various marathons and an ultra, hikes and also fosters rescue dogs for Pets in Need and German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California.
Soyeun has lived in Seoul, South Korea, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York. She attended Concord Academy in Massachusetts, graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of California at Los Angeles. While attending UCLA, Soyeun served as Editor in Chief of the UCLA Asian Pacific American Law Journal (Vols. 5 and 6) and Chief Essays Editor for the UCLA Women’s Law Journal (Vol. 9).
