Discrimination and Harassment
Every aspect of the employment relationship
is affected by the laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment
in employment. Federal and state laws and regulations and
local ordinances, which may differ in their scope, must be
considered in every phase of employment and in the business’
operations and its policies and procedures. We help our clients
comply with these laws and maintain a workplace free of discriminatory
conduct and harassment. This involves much more than defending
lawsuits – the business’ daily operations and
its ongoing relationship with its employees are subject to
numerous requirements, from the required posting of mandatory
posters to conducting internal investigations of claimed harassment,
from sorting out the potential conflicts between sick leave
and disability accommodation to wrestling with the differences
between the California and Federal family leave acts. Our
advice and guidance on matters involving discrimination and
harassment is an important component of our Human
Resources Counseling role, and we take pride in providing
sound advice to clients with whom we maintain lasting relationships.
