Thom is the head of the firm’s
Real Estate
Group. His practice involves a broad range of real estate matters,
including commercial leasing, purchase and sale transactions, real
estate secured lending, development and construction, and residential
transactions. Thom has long been active in community affairs, having
served as a director of the Mid-Peninsula
Housing Coalition, HIP
Housing, and the Palo
Alto Chamber of Commerce. He also served as National Chair of
the Brown University alumni admissions
program, and is on the Board of Counselors of the Peninsula
Open Space Trust. He graduated from Brown University with a BA
in Human Studies and earned his law degree with honors in 1978 from
Hastings College of the Law, where he was a member and editor of the
Law Journal, and a member of the Thurston Honor Society and Order
of the Coif. Thom also holds a degree from the Kennedy School of Government
at Harvard University, where he focused on land use issues and the
financial aspects of real estate investment.
